About Elliot Mercer
My name is Elliot Mercer, and for over 35 years, handcrafted duffle bags, messenger bags, backpacks and belts have been my life’s work. Since my early twenties, I’ve designed and built each piece with care, patience, and pride.
Now, the time has come to hang up my tools and begin a new chapter — one filled with family, travel, and long, unhurried mornings.
Before I close my workshop for good, I’d like to share my story… and my final creations… with you.
A Childhood Surrounded by Craft
I grew up in a small town in upstate New York, where my grandfather worked as a saddlemaker. His workshop was my playground — the scent of leather, the sound of a mallet striking a chisel, the way raw material could be transformed into something lasting.
By the time I was 15, I was making belts and wallets from off-cuts, selling them at the local market. It wasn’t just the joy of creating — it was the connection with the people who bought them.
The First Bag — And the Spark That Endured
At 22, I made my first leather tote: deep chestnut brown, hand-stitched, solid brass fittings. A customer bought it the very next day.
That moment changed everything. I knew I’d found my calling — creating something that could become part of someone’s everyday life, quietly carrying their story.
Building a Legacy Through Highs and Lows
In my late twenties, I opened a tiny studio in Brooklyn. I expanded the collection, experimented with new designs, and slowly built a loyal following.
There were challenges — recessions, rising material costs, and long nights at the workbench — but each obstacle only deepened my commitment to quality and tradition.
Love, Family, and a Wider World
I met my wife, Claire, when she came into the shop looking for a gift. She became my partner in life and in business, helping me share our craft with customers across the U.S. and beyond.
Years later, our son encouraged us to bring the brand online — and suddenly, our bags were traveling to places I’d never imagined, from California to Maine, from small towns to big cities.
The Final Chapter — And My Last Sale
After 35 years at the bench, I’m ready to pass the torch. Once these final bags are gone, the workshop doors will close forever.
To mark this farewell, I’m offering my last handcrafted leather collection at special savings of up to 80% off.
Each piece is made with the same devotion to craft that has guided me from the beginning — a lifetime of skill in every stitch.
My Final Farewell — Up to 80% Off
This is more than a sale.
It is my thank you, my goodbye, and a final opportunity to carry a piece of my story with you.
With deepest gratitude,
Elliot Mercer
